This is Allison Dinsmore.
I’ve been avoiding writing about her case for a few days now, because I mostly make it a policy not to give animal abusers (or accused animal abusers) much face time on World Wide Whiskers (except for the guy who made the cat bong. A cat bong is an exception.) But there is something bizarre about Allison Dinsmore’s case.
Dinsmore, a middle school teacher, is accused of letting her two cats starve to death. At first, she told police that she locked the cats in the apartment and didn’t check on them, saying she couldn’t even remember when she’d last been there.
“Dinsmore allegedly told police she’d been staying at her boyfriend’s place and had recently gone on a camping trip. When asked why she left the cats for so long without checking on them, Dinsmore said she didn’t have time, police said.”
But now Dinsmore’s lawyer says that her apartment represented an abusive situation for her, and that’s why she couldn’t check on the cats.
Excuse me? She couldn’t call a friend? An animal shelter? A random number out of the phone book? Clearly she’s either nefarious or mentally ill, but either way, those cats didn’t have to die.
