Brullie is a frog from South Africa. This is an X-ray of his legs.
You may notice something odd about the leg on the left: it’s fake. After an attack by a dog, Brullie’s owner, Anne Mearns, brought him to the vet, where his leg was replaced with a metal rod.
“Frogs are famous for their legs,” she said, “so the thought of Brullie being left lame broke my heart. I knew without surgery he would never move again, so I to rushed to the vet and begged him to operate. The vet was more used to saving cats and dogs and couldn’t understand why I was so worried about a frog, but he eventually agreed.
Brullie is the first frog to ever undergo surgery for a broken bone. But I think the real “first” here is that this is the first story I’ve ever read that involves not a crazy cat lady but a crazy frog lady. Anne Mearns, I salute you.
