Is the news getting you down? Sick of boring websites with pictures of bombers, politicians, and just generally crazy people? Rather look at kittens instead? Believe it or not, there is a solution!

It’s a teensy bit complicated to Kittenify your life, but it’s worth it.

The directions: Go to this site. Bookmark it. Then go into your bookmarks and change the URL that this bookmark points to so that it is the javascript from that page. (To do this in Firefox, go to the Bookmarks tab, then go to Organize Bookmarks.)

Okay, now you’re ready to Kittenify. Go to any website. Go to your bookmarks and click on the bookmark you made. Get ready for awesomeness as every photo on that page is replaced with a photo of a kitten. Check it out!

This is Sockington, or Socks for short

He has more than 500,000 followers on Twitter. His owner views him as “a modern Garfield,” and having read his tweets I would say that is somewhat accurate. He’s missing that sarcasm and disdain for the world that made Garfield so lovable.

Jack, who has 348 followers (more than me, I might add) is extremely jealous of Sockington. If he could talk, he would probably point out that he’s a lot more like Garfield.

Gus and Penny (probably) don’t know it, but they’ve become part of the large community of cats who twitter. Their owner, Ioan Ghip, set up a contraption that takes a photo of each cat each time he or she goes in or out of their cat door. The photo is then posted on twitter with commentary here.

It’s pretty cool, but I still prefer my cat Jack’s twitter.

In this article on Salon entitled “I can has cheezburger . . . and pathos?”, Jay Dixit takes the lolcat phenomenon way, way too seriously. His thesis is rather obvious–that we like the lolcats because they are pictures of cats portraying human emotions. Wait, you mean cats don’t really like cheeseburgers? Or go on diets? Or become sensitive artists? I’m shocked! And don’t even get me started on his ramblings about Ceiling Cat.

According to this New York Times blog post, the latest thing is cats who use twitter. Twitter, for those of you who don’t know, is sort of like a website of facebook statuses, or mini-blogging, or 140 word descriptions of how you’re feeling right that second. Now, as someone who runs a cat blog, it might seem hypocritical for me to say that cats twittering is stupid. But that’s what I’m saying. Because this is a blog about cats, not written by them. The day I write a post in the voice of my cat is the day you all have permission to stage a cat-lady intervention.
